Golf Vic Vol 60 No 2 2019

THE MEN'S WINNERS There’s good news for all of the male pairings thinking of playing in the 2020 Vic Four-Ball – Dean and Blake Anderson won’t be playing. In recent times, this father-and-son combination have dominated the event, twice finishing second and winning their second straight this year. That’s a formidable achievement, but Dean says enough is enough. “Blake has a baby and we both have a large landscaping business to run, so we’re done.” The two Northern Golf Club members won this year on a countback from Guy Wilson-Browne, from RACV Cape Schanck, and David Snell, from Leongatha Golf Club, after totalling 93 points at Sorrento and Moonah Links. Dean says it was mostly luck. “You need luck to win events like this… just miss a bunker, roll in a long putt… but we also combined well. “Blake had a shocker at Sorrento. For a landscape gardener, he managed to find every tree and lost six balls. I played pretty well. “At Moonah Links, Blake had a day out while I managed to help out on a few holes.” At Northern, the Anderson family is something of an institution. Dean’s other son, James, is also a member, as are his father and step-mother. Dean plays off 14 and Blake a nine-mark, and Dean says that playing golf with his sons is one of life’s true joys. “I cherish the opportunities to play with family. Get your kids into golf when they’re young, even if it means plenty of lessons. You won’t regret it.” Familiar story … Dean and Blake Anderson go back to back. “I CHERISH THE OPPORTUNITIES TO PLAY WITH FAMILY. GET YOUR KIDS INTO GOLF WHEN THEY’RE YOUNG, EVEN IF IT MEANS PLENTY OF LESSONS. YOU WON’T REGRET IT.” Golf Victoria 43
