ADX Melbourne in May 2021 is the next event in Australia’s premier dental event, Australian Dental Industry Association’s ADX series. From Thursday 6 – Saturday 8 May 2021, ADX Melbourne will be held at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre. This event is recognised as the place where the nation’s dental community can align so they can operate the most profitable dental business possible. S ince the inception of clear aligners and software simulations over 20 years ago with Align, we have seen the dawning of a new era of digital dentistry. At the same time connectivity and the digitisation of the world means we are interconnected with a global community in an unprecedented way. What does this mean for the average clinician? The patient has now information and data at their disposal that impacts their decision making greatly. The era of “doctor knows best” is over as our patients are now informed consumers who research what they want. It is now the responsibility of the clinician to adapt to the new era of what the patient perceives they want. You may ask: how do I do that? We use technology to interact and communicate on their level. The age of informationmeans the average patient is so overwhelmed by information that the visual instant cue allows them to react based on impulses rather than rational reasoning of information. We are still human and require not just rational reactions to information and data presented but we are more likely to respond to a feeling and how an image makes us feel. This emotional connection is impacted also by environmental smells, the sounds and ambiance created. This emotional connection often determines whether a patient decides to proceed on treatment or not. As we are seeing, this information age means more and more people are on virtual reality TV all day, every day through social media portals. Their appearance and wanting that perfect smile means giving the patient what they want, and creating an emotional connection is of vital importance. What better way to present to a patient their smile and their smile data with an STL file that shows predictable aesthetic smile enhancement opportunities. This accurate, diagnostic imagery creates that positive feeling for the patients to ask the questions they need, discuss all the options available for them impartially Creating the emotional connection with clear aligners n ws and facilitates informed choice. The clinician changes from the sales person mindset where we sell them only one option like veneers or a glorified photoshop leaving the patient with an unrealistic emotional connection. The orthodontics software simulation with clear aligners has been a great way to educate and inform the patients of their facial aesthetic options ethically. However it has been limited by the inability to demonstrate for the patient and further assist as a tool for multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment planning choices. If a patient has peg shaped laterals or uneven incisal edges, how can the clinician demonstrate a restorative and/or an alignment solution? It is now an option through Aorta laboratory services. The VISS or Virtual Interdisciplinary Smile Simulator allows the clinician to diagnose and treatment plan by taking the STL file from the third party orthodontics laboratory and demonstrate with the software a direct or indirect restorative solution; just restorative solutions; or soft tissue gingivectomies to assist implant planning. All of this supports the clinician’s diagnostic and treatment endeavour. It also assists the patient to visualise a predictable and realistic emotional connection to their dream smile. u With the doors accessible for extended trading hours allowing more time to explore 9000+ metres of exhibition space, ADX Melbourne will continue to cover everything you need to be successful and maintain a successful dental practice: from drills to chairs, from practice design to financial services, there will be something for every single member of your practice.
