Category 4 Australasian Dentist A s Dental Health Week gets underway for 2021, Colgate announces the expansion of its Oral Health Advocate Community. Entering the community’s third term, the collaboration of emerging young oral health professionals, celebrates the community growing to eight members. The Community aims to provide young oral health professionals with insight driven articles and video content covering a range of topics. The content focuses on preventive oral health supported by practical information for young professionals to employ during university studies right through to the practice setting. Advocates drive dialogue on a wide variety of topics including preventive oral health, practice management, social responsibility, career development, mental health, and sustainable dentistry, to name a few. The Colgate Advocates for Oral Health Community today welcomes the appointment of three new members: u Dr Kaejenn Tchia is a dentist based in Darwin. Dr Tchia is actively involved in the Australian Dental Association (ADA) Northern Territory Branch and is a member of the ADA Oral Health Working Group. u Zohair Kazmi is a newly graduated oral health therapist from Sydney University, who has represented Australia as a Global Voice Scholar at the 2020 World Health Assembly. Zohair has an interest in dental public health and health service delivery, and is currently practicing in ACT. u Haydyn Bathurst is a third year dental student at Charles Sturt University and is from regional NSW. The community’s collective voice provides peer-to-peer insights for young dental and oral health practitioners, sparks new ideas and encourages young professionals in their career development. “The community understands the challenges new recruits may be facing, and this initiative continues to provide a valuable resource for them.” The community brings together young professionals in order to leverage their experience and perspectives for the benefit of the profession. Working with Colgate, the advocates’ articles will be published on www.colgateprofessional.com.au and shared via the advocates’ social channels. u Colgate expands oral health advocacy across ANZ Continues supporting young professionals with practical insight and support n ws B OQ Specialist has announced it will offer two professional development grants this year in partnership with the Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch (ADAVB), as part of the popular ADAVB BOQ Specialist Bursary program. Now in its seventh consecutive year, the program aims to recognise both dental practices and recent dental graduates that demonstrate a commitment to excellence and to quality learning by providing fund- ing for further professional development. BOQ Specialist Victorian State Manager, Daniel McDonough said he was proud to be supporting the bursary program through the long-standing partnership with ADAVB again this year. “We are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with ADAVB supporting dental BOQ SPECIALIST and ADAVB announce applications open for 2021 Dental Bursaries practitioners in delivering the highest level of care and service to their patients through the bursary program,” he said. “Not only does this mark the strength of our long-standing relationship, but also our commitment to supporting the professional development within the Victorian dental community.” As part of the program, one bursarywill be available to ADAVB members who first registered as a dentist in Australia between 2013 and 2021 and contribute $5,000 towards their professional development through ADAVB CPD courses. The other will offer an ADAVB member owned practice $8,000 to be applied to CPD and training programs and $2,000 to be applied to ADAVB CPD courses, providing the opportunity for each practitioner and staff member within the practice to undertake further professional development. Commenting on the program, ADAVB President, Dr Jeremy Sternson, said: “BOQ Specialist’s incredible generosity will have a positive impact on the successful practice and recent graduate.” “This bursary will help those lucky recipients achieve greater satisfaction through greater dentistry, and it is such a great time to win it when our own ADAVB CPD program is looking to be the best ever.” u The bursaries are open to ADAVB members, with submissions accepted until 5:00pm on Monday 25 October 2021.
