We expect to see all aligner companies begin to offer whitening with their cases very soon. u On 16th June, Ormco (Spark) announced it has received FDA clearance to treat mixed dentition with Spark u Spark’s recent release also allows orthodontists to download the STL files of the first 3 stages and last stage to minimise time between patient acceptance and being in their first aligners – no doubt a sign of things to come in the world of aligners! u 3M Clarity aligners offer a two in one system – Flex + Force. u ClearCorrect announced that it will standardise the time from case approval to shipping to 10 days! u A number of Australian Invisalign users have started to notice that their aligners are now being made in China, not Mexico u Henry Schein has announced their new aligner system – Reveal ® Clear Aligners u Important update first reported Dec 2020 (now in effect): Invisalign has recently changed their cancellation policy in that if you don’t accept more than 50% of your clinchecks uploaded with a scanner per quarter – you will be charged a fee for every case not approved in the next quarter. This has the potential to have major implications on your clinic – particularly if you offer free aligner consults/workups. If you are not fully aware of this change, please spend time reading their updated official terms and conditions Society News: COVID-19 continues to provide its challenges around the world and with the delta strain limiting our ability to have a firm grasp on outbreaks, we have seen and currently are seeing large amount of pressure on our health system in NSW and VIC. We wish everyone good health and safety during this time. With regards to dental practices, we are continuing to see downtime in those two states, particularly with regards to elective treatment. However, we have reason for hope. At the time of writing this article, NSW has just passed 70% double vaccination and are seeing a decline in number of cases as well as opening up parts of the state and the economy. Victoria is expected to begin opening up from late October also, and so too the ACT. New Zealand is also in the midst of managing the “living with COVID” roadmap. Thankfully, other states around Australia have been able to minimise the effects of COVID-19 this year. Australia is on track to reaching 80% double vaccination in early December – and have indicated that at this time, a new normal of “living with COVID” landscape will implemented including in and outbound overseas travel. The ACAS committee, with support from delegates, sponsors and speakers, postponed our symposium until February 2022 to allow clinicians who have been in lockdown to treat their no- doubt ever increasing backlog of patients, interstate boarders to come down, as well as time for the framework and landscape to stabilise post opening up. We cannot wait to hold what will be one of the first major conferences in the Australian dental world. We are incredibly lucky to have such amazing speakers who have all stayed by our side and all of whom have recommitted to our February 2022 date! It will be an amazing conference with topics that are really digging into the core of aligner treatment (not to mention a very special cocktail party that we have planned). We would like to thank our speakers for their incredible wealth of knowledge, energy and expertise we are honoured to have had such an eclectic mix of amazing academics, international and local orthodontists who share the ACAS vision and ethos. I would like to thank our society sponsors, who have continued to support us in what is no doubt a difficult period for them! Their commitment to support our organisation and their support for our impartial education is very much appreciated. Lastly, and most importantly, I would like to thank our members who supported us in general, and particularly throughout the last year and a half where we’ve had to change, adapt and modify. We hope you have benefitted from our society and we are excited to continue to develop our society to achieve more and achieve better.
