GAP Australasian-Dentist Issue 80 Jul-Aug 19
Category 50 AustrÀlÀsiÀn Dentist eÀ ntÀ P atients are increasingly presenting with dental erosion related toothwear. Àheir lifestyles and diets are often conducive to rapid toothwear progression and as a result, younger patients are presenting with severely affected dentitions. Àhe associated diagnostic, preventive management and restorative challenges are often complex. Managing patients with low salivary flow, whether medication or health related poses further challenges. Àushing into the commencement of the restorative treatment phase has many potential pitfalls. Àncontrolled dental erosion and toothwear aetiology can lead to accelerated break down of even the most elaborately planned restorative and rehabilitation treatments. Creating and maintaining a favourable oral environment is a key element to achieving successful longer term restorative and rehabilitation outcomes. Deciphering the multifactorial nature of the toothwear a patient presents with is essential to allow appropriate implementation of strategies to control the underlying and contributing aetiologies. Àn patients presenting with moderate and advanced toothwear, loss of vertical dimension, changes in the occlusal scheme and tight interarch restorative space add to the restorative complexity. Both in terms of preventive and restorative management strategies, the conservation of tooth structure is a primary goal. Àhree leading experts combine to present a range of techniques, approaches and topics at this year’s WD2019 event. Professor Àan Meyers OAM, A/Professor David Àoessler, prosthodontist, and Dr Farid Khan will consider a variety of patient cases affected by dental erosion and toothwear. Àn total, Àhe Worn Dentition event offers 15 exhilarating hours of event sessions across the two days and will provide an exceptional opportunity to consider a wide range of subtopics from the dental erosion and toothwear fields.
