CATEGORY 8 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS In a dental field that’s always progressing, the Australasian Implant Academy (AIA) has become a trusted leader in implant education. Combining cutting-edge technology, evidence-based practices, and a strong commitment to professional growth, the AIA is proud to be bringing two of its advanced implantology courses internationally in 2025. This milestone highlights the Academy’s dedication to empowering dentists with the skills and confidence to boost their careers. AIA’s commitment to excellence From the beginning, the AIA has focused on setting high standards in implantology education. With a curriculum that covers everything from the basics to advanced surgical techniques and as the first academy in Australia providing live patient surgery for students, the AIA ensures participants gain both theoretical understanding and hands-on experience. This combination gives dentists the expertise to tackle the complexities of modern implantology with confidence. The AIA is committed to ongoing mentorship. The Academy recognises that mastering implantology is a continuous journey. Through its network of experienced clinicians, AIA graduates have access to a community WhatsApp group as well as monthly online case discussions, where they can present cases and receive real-time feedback and assistance with treatment planning from the AIA clinical team and the league of AIA graduates. Taking the AIA experience global In addition to their popular Fellowship and Externship programs, the AIA is proud to announce two new training programs as part of their 2025 global expansion, designed to deliver unparalleled opportunities for dental professionals. The first program will take place in São Paulo, Brazil, showcasing the AIA’s renowned Full Arch Immediate Loading course with live patient cases. Accredited by Faculdade FAIPE, this program is designed to provide participants with the skills and confidence to perform full-arch implant procedures with precision and success. The second program will be held in New York City, USA, offering an exclusive 5-day Fellowship accredited by the prestigious New York University. This fellowship promises advanced implant skills training, coupled with the invaluable opportunity to connect with global leaders in the field. Both programs reflect the AIA’s commitment to excellence, combining hands-on training, expert mentorship and cutting-edge knowledge to help dentists take their practice to new heights. Dr Dean Licenblat, co-founder of the AIA and a recognised leader in implantology, describes this expansion as a natural progression of the Academy’s vision. “Our goal has always been to raise the bar in implant education, ensuring that dentists have the knowledge and skills they need to transform their patients’ lives. By expanding internationally, we’re not just sharing our expertise, we’re building a global community of implantologists committed to excellence.” The growing need for advanced implant training The growing demand for implant dentistry highlights the need for accessible, highquality education. As innovations such as digital workflows, 3D printing, and guided implant surgery continue to transform the way implants are planned and placed, staying informed and skilled is more important than ever. The AIA’s training programs are designed to keep pace with these advancements. By integrating the latest technology into its courses, the Academy ensures participants are ready to bring these innovations into their practices. The focus on case-based learning helps dentists apply their knowledge to real-time clinical situations, improving their decisionmaking and problem-solving skills. Why choose the AIA? Dental professionals looking to advance their skills in implantology will find unmatched value in the AIA’s programs. Here’s why: u Comprehensive Curriculum: Covering diagnostics, treatment planning, surgical techniques, and post-operative care, the AIA’s courses address every aspect of implant dentistry. u Expert Faculty: Led by a team of highly experienced clinicians, the Academy’s faculty brings extensive knowledge and expertise to every session. u Hands-On Training: Participants gain practical experience through live patient cases, ensuring they’re prepared for real-world challenges. u Ongoing Mentorship: The AIA’s support doesn’t stop when the course ends. Graduates benefit from continued mentorship, resources and a supportive professional network. u Global Recognition: With its inter– national expansion, the AIA’s certification is now recognised as a mark of excellence worldwide. For an exceptional insight into the latest techniques, approaches and aesthetic dentistry treatments, Transforming Smiles 2025 is a masterclass not to be missed. In the world of modern dentistry, the ability to transform a patient’s smile goes far beyond just improving oral health – it’s about boosting confidence, enhancing aesthetics, and changing lives. Transforming Smiles 2025 is presented by leading experts, who each bring a wealth of expertise. Dr Michael Mandikos will showcase the full anterior and posterior crown applications of Emax as well as partial coverage applications for veneers and onlays in the opening session of the event. Knowing when to change the vertical dimension, when it will make your patient look better and increase the longevity of teeth and restorations are some of the topics detailed by Professor David Roessler. Smile design is a delicate balance of artistry and science, where small details matter. From reshaping teeth to whitening, bonding, or even incorporating advanced dental technologies, there are endless possibilities for practitioners to offer patients a truly personalised and transformative experience. Immediate single tooth implants are covered in the opening session on Day 2 by Professor David Roessler, detailing strategies to achieve the best aesthetic result. Meanwhile, the second exhibition stand in Hall 10.1 (Stand D-088/E-089) will highlight innovations in Prevention & Care. This allows Ivoclar to pay special attention to the key group of preventive care teams, enabling them to explore solutions from this segment in greater depth and in a practical, hands-on environment. With this approach, Ivoclar emphasises the fact that the path to optimal oral health and a beautiful smile for everyone – the vision of the Liechtensteinbased company – is increasingly achieved through preventive care. Ivoclar’s two exhibition spaces at IDS 2025 will be complemented by an exciting live program along with a variety of addons. CATEGORY 18 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS A group of high-performing dentists from across Australia recently completed the 2024 Mastering Porcelain Veneers program with Dr Andrew See. The immersive 8-week program helps dentists who believe they have the potential to do more than routine general dentistry by helping them expand their clinical skills and knowledge in aesthetic dentistry, occlusion and bonding. “We found that many dentists were struggling with systematic protocols in porcelain veneers. It’s not their fault; we were never taught that in dental school. I was exactly in the same position when I started out. I overcame that through studying with some fantastic mentors around the world in smile design, occlusion, bonding and periodontal surgery. I specifically designed this program to combine all my knowledge and experience into an 8-step framework that provides structure and guidance with predictable workflows in aesthetic dentistry, allowing dentists to follow a process instead of guessing, wasting time and making mistakes on patients.” says Founder of Dental Mastery Academy and Principal Clinical Tutor, Dr See. The program runs once a year and provides proven and evidence-based protocols for smile assessment, planning and occlusion for veneers through to the exact clinical steps for tooth preparation and bonding. The convenient format is delivered with a combination of online tutorials including clinical footage, group masterminds and private coaching sessions. Plus, it includes actionable resources such as workflows, checklists and templates. “The course has been outstanding. The level of detail in the modules surpassed my expectations and the ongoing support is fantastic! It’s also very well delivered; I highly recommend taking this course!” says Dr Louise Kemp from Sydney. The program is recommended for both new graduates and seasoned practitioners who want to improve their expertise to do advanced aesthetic cases without trial and error. Pre-register for enrolment in the 2025 program at www.porcelainveneerscourse. com.au and take your skills to the next level. Participants from the 2024 cohort reported that before doing the course, their confidence level to start tackling an aesthetic case was 1 out of 10. After the course, 100% of participants who completed the survey said they’d moved up to a 10/10 confidence level. “We’re already seeing results from participants who are now doing aesthetic cases they never thought possible. In our own private practice, we’ve had the opportunity to do 1000’s of veneers and impact patients’ lives and it’s so heartwarming to know we’ve had the chance to help other dentists do the same. A participant of the course commented that, after preparing a case immediately following the course, she kept reflecting on how much knowledge she had gained and how clinically applicable the course had been throughout the preparation.” says Communications Manager, Lucy See Thank you to the event partners who helped bring the hands-on workshop to life – Kerr, Ark Health, Smile Art Lab, Densol, Ivoclar, Coltene, Ecovis Clark Jacobs and W&H u Dr Andrew See, Aesthetic Dental Expert & Educator BDS Hons (Syd), FRACDS, MSc (Aesthetic Dentistry) (Lond), PGDipImplantology, FICOI, FCG Dent (UK), MFDS RCS Eng Dr Andrew See is a highly trained aesthetic and implant dentist with over 20 years of experience. CATEGORY 20 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS Dr Tiffany Chen, periodontist and founder of The Cusp Collective, chats with Dr Lan Tran, President of the Australian Association of Laser Dentistry (AALD), about dentistry and more. TC: Lan, you travel around domestically and internationally, giving highly engaging dental laser talks. What is your favourite application of laser in dentistry? LT: It’s the healing properties, aka Photobiomodulation. This is a unique function to lasers and certain lasers only but is a powerful tool in my general practice. TC: It’s such a widely used tool in medicine, I find it absolutely fascinating, I’d like to learn more about its everything it can do in dentistry. Would you like to share some of your biggest wins in dentistry? LT: Achieving my Mastership in Laser Dentistry after a six year hiatus related to my personal life. Being in a position where I can help not only my patients, but also other dentists to help their patients by the education I provide. I was registered as a dentist in Kenya for a month which allowed me to attend dental clinics there and provide hands-on live patient demonstrations TC: What an inspiration! Do you have advice for dentists who want to become educators? LT: Make sure you are in a place where you are happy to give your time without it impacting on your own well-being. TC: What is your strategy for dealing with negativity or setbacks in dentistry? LT: I believe that everything can teach us something. So, I don’t like to take the view of a situation or person as being negative or a holding me back. The only person holding me back is me, if I take that view, I learn the lesson that is being presented to me and move on. TC: Mindset is such a powerful tool. Is there a project taking up all your attention right now? LT: Me – Growing as a person and trying to move beyond the “triggers” that I have allowed to impact me from my previous relationship. Without doing this I cannot be the best version of myself and have the resilience to move forward in both my professional and personal life. TC: I love that, it takes a certain level of selfawareness to recognise where and how we can improve ourselves to become the best version we want to be. How do you wind down from a busy work, family, and social life? LT: Having ADHD I have to be very consistent and compartmentalised in all I do. My social battery does often run low, and at this stage in my life I can recognise and voice that easily. Those around me understand that my routines keep me grounded and all have a role in me functioning optimally, so they respect my firm boundaries around these habits. The routines look like monthly self-care, daily exercise (good for ADHD) & keeping my circle of “my people” very tight. Being kind to myself and allowing myself to take time to do things I actually enjoy are very important, but I make sure I communicate my reasons to those around me, so they don’t feel like they are neglected. TC: So important to be honest with yourself about what you need! Thank you for sharing. u Hear Dr Tran speak at the Melbourne Conference – 26 July 2025 www.thecuspcollective.com.au This year’s Cusp Collective conference in Melbourne Dr Tiffany Chen Dr Lan Tran

CATEGORY 22 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST Remember the first digital x-ray you took? That moment when you realised film processing would become history? We’re at another transformative moment in dentistry and the change is even more profound. When visiting practices across Australia, I’m struck by a growing divide. Some dentists are thriving in the digital age, seamlessly integrating orthodontics into their daily workflow. Others remain hesitant, watching from the sidelines as technology reshapes our profession. This divide isn’t about access to technology though – most practices today have intraoral scanners and practice management software. The real difference lies deeper, in how dentists approach the fundamental shift in orthodontic treatment delivery. The most successful digital practices I’ve observed share a common trait, they understand that technology amplifies expertise rather than replaces it. These dentists haven’t just bought new equipment; they’ve reimagined their entire approach to orthodontic treatment. Consider the traditional orthodontic consultation process. Multiple appointments, waiting periods, and a treatment plan that patients struggle to visualise. Digital workflows have compressed this timeline dramatically, but speed alone isn’t the revolution. The real transformation is in treatment planning precision and patient engagement. I recently observed a practice that illustrates this perfectly. Their orthodontic consultations blend digital efficiency with sound clinical principles. Patients don’t just see a computer simulation; they receive an education in their treatment journey, grounded in proven orthodontic concepts. Treatment acceptance has soared, not because of flashy technology, but because patients UNDERSTAND and TRUST the process. However, this success story highlights a crucial point, digital tools are only as good as the clinical foundations supporting them. I’ve seen practices invest heavily in technology only to struggle because they missed this fundamental truth. The most sophisticated software can’t compensate for gaps in understanding orthodontic principles. This is why our approach at OrthoED starts with fundamentals, not features. Through our Aligner Essentials course, we help practitioners master both domains – the timeless principles of tooth movement and the digital tools that enhance treatment delivery. It’s not about choosing between traditional knowledge and modern technology; it’s about leveraging both to elevate patient care. For general dentists, this convergence creates unprecedented opportunities. Cases that once seemed too complex become manageable when you combine solid orthodontic principles with digital precision. The technology simplifies the process, but it’s the underlying knowledge that ensures predictable results. As our profession continues this digital transformation, the question isn’t whether to adapt, but how to adapt intelligently. Success requires more than investing in new equipment – it demands a commitment to understanding both the fundamentals of orthodontics and the capabilities of digital systems. The practices that will thrive in this new era are those that recognise technology as an enhancer of expertise rather than a replacement for it. They’re investing in knowledge as much as equipment, building a foundation that can support whatever innovations the future brings. Just as film x-rays became obsolete, the traditional approach to orthodontic treatment is rapidly becoming history. The future isn’t coming – it’s already here. For those ready to embrace this transformation, our next Clear Aligner Essentials courses run in July and December 2025, with both in-person and live streaming options available. u For more information about mastering digital orthodontics and securing your place, contact Robyn at OrthoED on +61 3 9108 0475 or email robyn@orthoed.com.au The digital revolution in orthodontics: Beyond the hype EVENTS
