6 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS One of the drawbacks for Australasian dentists has always been our geographical isolation from the rest of the world. The brilliant opportunities, lifestyle and prestige of the region come at the price of increased costs for import, and separation from our peers around the world when it comes to training, education, inspiration and peer support. Dr Ned Restom, of Smile On clinics, who co-founded the Australasian Implant Academy in 2020 with leading local dental surgeons, says quite simply: “What we decided to do was create a way for any dentist in Australia and New Zealand, at any level of skill and experience, to get access locally to the world’s best experts, teachers and technicians in implant skills, from the absolute basics, all the way to complex implantology, right here, in the country.” It was a vision they began building with support from the American Board of Oral Implantology (ABOI), drawing on the best education and expertise the US can offer, and which is expanding rapidly, with a network and resource-based tapping giants of the specialty from Brazil, Mexico, and training over 400 dentists a year on home soil. “The time,” says Dr Restom, “has come.” Live patient implant training with the world’s leading experts – at your doorstep The Australasian Implant Academy brings the giants of Implantology to our shores for world-class trainings and mentorships. By Jade Richardson With more than 20 years’ experience in the field, himself, and a prestigious career built on extensive overseas travel, study, networks and mentors, he says bringing the world’s best to teach and inspire dentists here is a game-changer for anybody seeking elite training without the burden and costs of education abroad. The Australasian Implant Academy offers a faculty of over 18 experts and pioneers in the field, including some of the most respected and revered dentists, including leading periodontists, endodontists, prosthodontists, anaesthetists and world class implantologists: Dr Dean Licenblat, Dr James L. Rutkowski, Dr Ned Restom and Dr David Bassal, as well as prestigious affiliations with the American Academy of Periodontology and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. A major advantage of AIA is that all trainings are built around live patient treatments. “Nobody offers live, handson treatment trainings here, except at universities, and the advantages are immense. Working with live patients is a completely different experience to working with models. This has been a key priority for us to offer. It pushes our students forward in confidence and skills exponentially.” The Academy offers a unique program of 4 Fellowships, starting with a foundational program which covers everything from medical history, revising skills, case management, communication skills, and a solid, hands-on grounding in the basics of implantology and grafting, suturing techniques, training with cone beam CT, treatment plans and maintenance, to intermediate implant placement, soft tissue management, complex sutures, and an advanced implant grafting program including sinus and black grafts, PRP and PRF, and Full Arch. Fellowships from entry Level 1 to advanced Level 4 are offered throughout the year in 2025 out of state-of-the-art facilities in Sydney, Melbourne and the Dual-Cured Resin Luting Cement Footer Ads #106.indd 2 10/10/2024 12:37:42 PM
