6 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS One of the drawbacks for Australasian dentists has always been our geographical isolation from the rest of the world. The brilliant opportunities, lifestyle and prestige of the region come at the price of increased costs for import, and separation from our peers around the world when it comes to training, education, inspiration and peer support. Dr Ned Restom, of Smile On clinics, who co-founded the Australasian Implant Academy in 2020 with leading local dental surgeons, says quite simply: “What we decided to do was create a way for any dentist in Australia and New Zealand, at any level of skill and experience, to get access locally to the world’s best experts, teachers and technicians in implant skills, from the absolute basics, all the way to complex implantology, right here, in the country.” It was a vision they began building with support from the American Board of Oral Implantology (ABOI), drawing on the best education and expertise the US can offer, and which is expanding rapidly, with a network and resource-based tapping giants of the specialty from Brazil, Mexico, and training over 400 dentists a year on home soil. “The time,” says Dr Restom, “has come.” Live patient implant training with the world’s leading experts – at your doorstep The Australasian Implant Academy brings the giants of Implantology to our shores for world-class trainings and mentorships. By Jade Richardson With more than 20 years’ experience in the field, himself, and a prestigious career built on extensive overseas travel, study, networks and mentors, he says bringing the world’s best to teach and inspire dentists here is a game-changer for anybody seeking elite training without the burden and costs of education abroad. The Australasian Implant Academy offers a faculty of over 18 experts and pioneers in the field, including some of the most respected and revered dentists, including leading periodontists, endodontists, prosthodontists, anaesthetists and world class implantologists: Dr Dean Licenblat, Dr James L. Rutkowski, Dr Ned Restom and Dr David Bassal, as well as prestigious affiliations with the American Academy of Periodontology and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. A major advantage of AIA is that all trainings are built around live patient treatments. “Nobody offers live, handson treatment trainings here, except at universities, and the advantages are immense. Working with live patients is a completely different experience to working with models. This has been a key priority for us to offer. It pushes our students forward in confidence and skills exponentially.” The Academy offers a unique program of 4 Fellowships, starting with a foundational program which covers everything from medical history, revising skills, case management, communication skills, and a solid, hands-on grounding in the basics of implantology and grafting, suturing techniques, training with cone beam CT, treatment plans and maintenance, to intermediate implant placement, soft tissue management, complex sutures, and an advanced implant grafting program including sinus and black grafts, PRP and PRF, and Full Arch. Fellowships from entry Level 1 to advanced Level 4 are offered throughout the year in 2025 out of state-of-the-art facilities in Sydney, Melbourne and the Dual-Cured Resin Luting Cement Footer Ads #106.indd 2 10/10/2024 12:37:42 PM

CATEGORY 8 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS NSW Central Coast, and there are three opportunities to join the Academy’s Live Patient Externship next year. Dr Restom says the influence and reach of the AIA is expanding rapidly. The brains trust of mentors, teachers and graduates is also becoming a major force for implant training and networking as the academy widens its reach and attracts surgeons, pioneers and luminaries from other regions. “There was nothing like this in my day,” he says. “It was seriously prohibitive in so many ways to get this kind of education and access to the luminaries in the field. The academy is changing that completely. What we’re offering are the most elite, thorough, hands-on, multi-level, live trainings available in the region, and a community of peers, counsel and ongoing expert support that closes the gap for everyone.” “It’s been a humbling experience watching the academy grow,” he says. “We’ve built our business on our positive reviews, and steering this, watching it succeed and grow has been a real blessing in my career, I am really proud to be part of creating the AIA.” He says one of the great outcomes is that more local dentists with excellent skills and confidence in implantology means that many more Australian and New Zealand communities can access high demand, complex care, bringing the world’s best practice to regions everywhere. “For dentists, this is the opportunity to start out in a highly profitable, high demand area of skills, or develop your expertise, flexibility and confidence without leaving the country, bearing the costs of travel and research, or impacting the case flow at your practice.” The team say the level of expertise they have gathered provides the most unique, succinct hands-on clinical training available, up to and beyond Australian standards, with the added advantage of ongoing access to a very active international online community sharing case reviews, mentorship and real time access to a growing, skilled network of active, expert surgeons in the specialty, supported by the academy. “We don’t leave our clinicians to go it alone after studying with us,” says Dr Restom. “It is a major advantage to be part of our community. We offer a very active peer support network where you can share cases, seek input, ask questions, present cases and get access to faculty, specialists, pioneers and other dentists, actively sharing expertise and ideas.” The academy also offers career support services, including job placement assistance and networking opportunities. “We’re here to help local dentists make big leaps in their confidence, skills and success,” says Ned. “There’s nobody who knows this profession like the faculty we have built. We’re dentists committed to growing, serving and getting other dentist the best skills, and the best advantages in their careers the world can offer.” u PERTH 8-10 MAY 2025 REGISTER NOW ADC2025.ORG.AU Registrations are open for the premier dental industry event for 2025! CATEGORY 10 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS A lack of formal accredited implant dentistry programs has led to a fragmented landscape of implant education and thus resulted in substantial knowledge gaps. We created a symposium that has brought together global leaders to fill gaps and advance implant dentistry, offering participants a range of techniques, technology and approaches, allowing them to select the most suitable options for their practice and patients. The absence of a standardized educational framework for implant dentistry underscores the urgency of creating dedicated spaces for professional development, where dental professionals can access the latest research and innovations to address the complex and evolving needs of implant dentistry. In response to the fragmented state of implant education, the Tufts Global Implant Symposium was created to bring together experts from around the globe to assess the current gaps in formal implant training and shape the future of evidencebased implant education. Held at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, the symposium drew participation from specialists, educators, and deans, both in-person and virtually, from diverse regions such as North America, Europe, and Asia. The two day symposium of unparalleled immersion into cutting edge science in the world of implant dentistry. At the symposium we were surrounded by some of the brightest and most experienced minds in the field. A thematic schedule was created to maximize the educational impact. This symposium fostered a cross pollination of knowledge across various aspects of implant dentistry, including technology, materials, placement techniques, biology, planning, complication management techniques, management, the restorative aspect components (single to full arch), and methodology (immediacy placement, delayed placement). All about techniques and technologies and the presenters provided tips and guidance to navigate the complexities of modern implant dentistry from advanced treatment planning to use of surgical guidance systems. We deviled into the fundamental principles of biology and physiology with a focus on grafting techniques, soft tissue management and salvage of that failing implant. We created a journey of discovery, innovation and transformation, a journey that reshaped the The Tufts Global Implant Symposium Cultivating expertise in implant dentistry: A model for evidence-based learning Authors: Yash Brahmbhatt D27; Tufts University School of Dental Medicine Dr Edward T. The symposium introduced the formation of a global network of implant dentistry experts. Through battle of concepts and presentation series’, experts presented diverse implant techniques, empowering participants to select and integrate the methods best suited to their practices. This approach fosters innovation and encourages clinicians to blend techniques, promoting personalized, evidence-based care as implant dentistry becomes more integral to comprehensive dental care. The event highlighted the critical role of global collaboration in evolving implant education. Its hybrid format enabled broader participation and the sharing of diverse ideas. Exposure to varied implant techniques allowed participants to refine their practice by integrating new approaches, illustrating the importance of collective knowledge in advancing implant dentistry. CATEGORY 18 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS As you leave your dental office, you think about your day – satisfied patients and perfect dental work once again. But you can’t stop thinking of that one patient who received the best possible treatment just a few months ago, who today came back with a number of complications. The reason? Insufficient biofilm management. And it makes you wonder – how can you improve your patients’ home oral-care routines to protect your work? Well, there might just be a way. With iTOP you finally have the chance to learn how to successfully change your patients’ habits and views on the importance of daily biofilm management, show them the right techniques, and strengthen their motivation to use them. The individually-trained oral prophylaxis (iTOP) programme gives you great support in overcoming the daily challenges your patients face once they leave your dental office. Its Touch-to-Teach (T2T) approach allows you to understand your patients’ experience first hand – particularly with regards to discussing habits and behaviour – and it also helps you understand how to instruct and motivate your patients so that they’ll really follow your advice. On top of that, the courses take place in a wonderful environment with a great community of like-minded colleagues. Help your patients change their habits iTOP participants frequently state that the course has changed their own perception of the importance of correct biofilm control and the way they talk about it to their patients, and has exceeded their expectations of a high-level training that will benefit both their clinic and their patients. According to dental professionals who have already attended, iTOP is a school for a new generation of dental professionals – a place where biofilm control meets behaviour change. At iTOP seminars, participants experience a balanced combination of the latest up-to-date scientific knowledge and practical hands-on training for daily biofilm management using different techniques and tools, with the clear aim of providing optimal biofilm control for each individual case. The course with practical benefits for your dental practice During the first level of the iTOP programme – iTOP introductory – dental professionals deepen their know-how on the complex issues of biofilm mechanics in relation to patient motivation, practice their own biofilm-management skills, and learn tools and techniques that will support them in their daily work. The course brings a number of practical benefits to its participants, both from a clinical and economic perspective. Thanks to a new perception of their oral health, your patients will benefit even more from your high-quality work, which will lead to further recall appointments, recommendations and patient loyalty in general. The iTOP training will also allow you to provide biofilm-management instructions as a chargeable service, and running a clinic with a concept of prophylaxis at the highest, individual level will distinguish your dental practice from others. The course is usually a full one-day event in which participants learn both the research-based background and, even more importantly, the practical aspects of biofilm control via the Touch-toTeach(T2T) method. The best understanding comes from an optimal balance of knowledge and handson experience. The iTOP programme is innovative because it is based on gaining exceptional Discover iTOP – a hands-on workshop that will shape the way your patients perceive their oral health Join the course that will create a real shift in your patients’ oral-care routines. iTOP teachers explain why they recommend this prophylaxis training to all dental professionals

CATEGORY 20 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS practical experience – with the opportunity to test the techniques in a live setting. Hands-on sessions are led by experienced instructors, and training is performed in a way that all participants get a chance to experience the patient’s journey first-hand. In some courses, we also bring patients to the sessions so the practical aspects can be expanded to reallife situations. A revolutionary course for dental professionals, from dental professionals What makes iTOP so positively perceived by dental professionals is the fact that it has been developed thanks to the pioneering approach and passion of Dr. Jiří Sedelmayer, the creator of the course. He spent 25 years as a clinical teacher and researcher at the UKE Hamburg. Early in his clinical career, he questioned his own work and thought about ways to improve the education of future dental professionals. Sedelmayer developed a programme to teach his students the optimal biofilm control techniques, which is now known as iTOP. Sedelmayer’s methods have been taught both nationally and internationally. He led more than 1,100 training seminars and courses worldwide. Who will be your guide throughout the programme? The seminar is always led by certified iTOP dental professionals with years of experience in training their colleagues and patients. The iTOP lecturers leading the seminars are all certified professionals from the dentistry field – periodontists, dental surgeons, orthodontists, general practitioners, dental hygienists and more, all of whom adopt a personal approach, dedicated to every participant during the seminar. The practical, Touch-to-Teach part is provided by the iTOP instructors Dr. Jiří Sedelmayer Dr Tihana Divnic-Resnik Andrew Terry Dr Chris Barker – certified professionals who have successfully finished the iTOP Educator course and are regularly re-certified. How is iTOP helping dental professionals in their daily practice? Dr Chris Barker “iTOP has been highly effective in providing me with additional insights and strategies for managing challenging cases. By using the skillsets and tools provided through iTOP, I am able to adapt techniques to suit the unique needs of individual patients and specific situations.” Andrew Terry, iTOP Lecturer: “I see iTOP fitting into the future of oral health and practice by emphasising the education of this guiding principle at a university level. It’s important to teach students to treat patients as individuals, listen to their wants and needs and collaborate with them to find a routine that will work effectively.” Shida Taheri, iTOP Instructor “iTOP has changed how I communicate with patients. I feel much more comfortable and confident discussing how to use their interdental brushes and toothbrushes. It sounds basic, but it was the knowledge I needed to communicate effectively with them.” Do you want to experience iTOP yourself? CATEGORY 22 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS Nitrous Oxide Sedation is one of the safest forms of sedation that is available to dentists. Nitrous Oxide has an unparalleled level of safety compared to other forms of Anxiolysis, even compared to local aneasthesia. Unfortunately, dental undergraduate exposure is generally very limited. Thus, relative analgesia is treated as a ‘forgotten art’. Too many dentists have stressed similar stories ‘how are they going to treat their patient whilst managing their anxieties and pain?’ The answer is usually found in the cupboard down the hall from the clinic collecting cobwebs. The Nitrous Oxide set up that everyone’s hesitant to use because it was used once, was used without proper education, made the patient feel yuck and was simply put back in the cupboard and forgotten about. Dr Preketes and Dr Walker have revamped the Nitrous Oxide program. Starting in October 2022 till present October 2024, over 450 dentists have attended their unique courses for Nitrous oxide certification. This does not include clinics that have requested private courses in house to educate their dentists in all states of Australia. “ We would like to thank all that have attended our courses. We have established multiple N20 courses in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Launceston, Canberra, Singapore and even Thailand. We understand the current climate in dentistry and how important it is for dentists to have these pain and anxiety control techniques under the belts. Therefore, to help we have established competitive recent 1st and 2nd year dental graduate rates.” Nitrous Oxide Courses have attracted practitioners from South Pacific Islands such as Vanuatu and Cook Islands. Remote locations, Christmas Island, health services from Central Adelaide state government, as well as international courses for dentists and medical practitioners in South East Asia, (Bangkok on November the 20th 2024). This International course attracts practitioners from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and other South East Asian Nations. Dr Preketes and Walkers courses have been incredibly well received, nationally and internationally, due to their standing as educators in sedation and that their private practices are sedation based. As private practitioners they provide nitrous oxide sedation daily in the real world as an effective adjunct to dental treatment. As sedation dental practitioners recognised by APHRA and endorsed to provide intravenous drugs They still administer nitrous oxide ritually with great patient outcomes. Dr Preketes and Dr Walker are recognised as Key Opinion Leaders in nitrous oxide sedation and all forms of sedation and anaesthesia related to dentistry. They are Clinical Senior Lecturer’s in the Conscious Sedation Diploma at the University of Sydney. The Conscious Sedation Diploma at the University of Sydney is the only APHRA recognised Diploma in Australia for recognition of dentists to administer intravenous sedation. A key component in the Conscious Sedation Diploma is the education of a strong command of advanced local anaesthesia techniques and Nitrous oxide sedation taught by Dr’s Preketes and Dr Walker. Dr Preketes and Walker are strong advocates of safe sedation and anaesthesia in dentistry encouraging dentists who wish to provide nitrous oxide sedation to be appropriately educated. Dentists have expressed how comfortable they are to ask questions in these courses as they know that the courses are a safe space. Dr. Walker & Dr. Preketes are in private practice and understand the complexities dentists face with the management of pain and anxiety. We see mature dentists and young dentists networking and sharing case stories with the same goals and initiatives- to be able to treat patients’ pain and anxiety free. On the 1st of June 2025 at ADASA, we will be running the Silhouette master N2O course, showcasing the newly modified low profile mask. It requires a completely new education and paradigm shift to engage this method of delivery of nitrous oxide. Dr Walker and Dr Preketes have had the benefit of the inventor’s personal tutorial on in these modifications, with the help of Parker’s South east Asia manager’s guidance. A Special thanks to Pascali-Parker Hannafin regional Pacific Manager, Airliquide Health Care, ADA South Australia branch and A-dec Australia Paul and Daniel. We wish you and your families a safe and merry Christmas and a Happy new year 2025 and look forward to meeting you in one of our courses. u For more information and tickets visit www. nitrousoxidecourse.com.au Silhouette master N20 Course tickets available call (08) 8272 8111.
