CATEGORY 36 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS This year Australia’s The Implant Institute (TII) celebrates five years of diverse course deliveries to dentists ranging from its six day implant courses at foundation, intermediate and advanced levels, to the Australian program delivery of Cambridge Academy of Dental Implantology’s (CADI) PGDip and PGCert (Dent Imp) award courses. Almost 350 current students and alumni have benefited from its educational opportunities, led by Australian Program Director Dr Misagh Habibi and faculty from around Australia. “Our goal is to make advanced education in dental implantology accessible, empowering and enjoyable. I’m fortunate to have the collaboration of a faculty of tutors who are accessible, skilled, and humble and generous as mentors, and this helps make all the difference,” says Dr Habibi. “Our practical week courses offer opportunity to delve into advanced implant learning in our own region, in an environment that is intimate enough to share one-on-one hands-on tips and tricks that clinicians really appreciate.” “We focus on application of the science and clinical experience to encourage clinical decision-making that is critical and appropriate to each clinician’s own level of skill and experience. At a theoretical level we want each learner to gain a fuller understanding of advanced implantology and to diagnose the needs of cases for Advancing implant skills and patient care with practical courses at The Implant Institute long term outcomes. At a practical level, we want each learner to take the next step in their own surgical and prosthetic skills development, but also to recognise their limitations and understand when collaboration with a mentor, or referral out, may be required depending on experience.” The six day Advanced Implant/ Grafting course in June 2024 is a unique opportunity to delve into high level implant and grafting skills. Topics covered include immediate implants in the aesthetic zone, partial extraction therapy, guided bone regeneration, advanced bone block and Khoury bone shield augmentations, sinus elevation and grafting, soft tissue considerations and grafting, platelet rich fibrin and plasma concentrates including phlebotomy and sticky bone preparation, and advanced case digital planning/ execution. There is a focus on background science and practical skills development. “It is a certainly an intensive week of learning and I’ve always had excellent feedback from delegates about this course.” Dr Craig Duval is an experienced private dental practitioner from Brisbane QLD, who has taken his clinical practice to the next level since completing the Six Day Advanced program. “I was seeking advanced implant education for grafting and augmentation. The Implant Institute led by Dr Misagh Habibi ran an excellent teaching program with well designed hands-on exercises on this topic. I could take what I learnt and immediately implement it in my practice,” comments Dr Duval. “The course exceeded my expectations and was well worth the trip to Perth,” he continues. “The many real-life examples were what made the course most effective for me. Talking through what were previously very difficult or advanced cases, and getting hands-on tips, I gained confidence and competence to provide patients with the ideal outcome.” Dr Regan Leslie of Sunshine Coast QLD attended a full arch implant residency at The Implant Institute and found it propelled him in his implant career. “I was after sound tuition on All On X procedures and how to incorporate them into my clinic. Misagh is extremely knowledgeable and an amazing surgeon. He goes through in detail full arch diagnosis, planning and workflows. He covered straightforward cases as well as complex and very complex cases. He covered techniques for difficult cases and how to achieve excellent aesthetics.” “The live surgeries were very informative as Misagh explained what he was doing and why in real time.” “Having attended other full arch courses, I can say that this course is unmatched in what it offers. I think whether you are starting out in full arch, or a seasoned player, there is a lot you will learn from this course,” says Dr Leslie. “The team are so open to answer questions and help you succeed.” Dr Leslie is now registered to attend this June’s Advanced Implant Grafting program. “The full arch course gave me the confidence to start my own cases. I’m now really looking forward to the Advanced Grafting week.” Dr Yahia Sameh of Coffs Harbour NSW attended the 2023 ALL ON X implant residency in Perth and found it transformed his clinical practice. “It changed my perspective on where I am with my career. The expression an eye opener is an understatement.” “I’ve implemented new strategies in my practice that hopefully will allow me to apply what I’ve learned from Dr Habibi in the course.” Dr Habibi speaks of the philosophy of The Implant Institute’s intensive week courses. “What we are not about is filling the week with surgical observations and showcasing work in a way that makes it inaccessible.
