Many practitioners continue to use techniques and tools that have been utilised for decades (if not longer). Many of these tools still work well, however, improvement in surgical protocols and tools available to the clinician are always welcome. One of these innovations that have been a game changer for my practice is the NSK VarioSurg3. In my practice it is used virtually on a daily basis to carry out periodontal procedures (deep sub gingival debridement and lavage that is not possible with air scalers or a cavitron), dental extractions that are atraumatic to preserve soft and hard tissues in preparation of implant surgery. The numerous tips allow for not only tooth cutting but bone cutting capabilities uses for block grafting procedures, ridge split procedures and preprosthetic surgery and sinus window preparation and sniderian membrane elevation. I rarely encounter tearing of the sinus lining these days. 3. Efficient and Time-Saving: The ultrasonic vibrations allow for faster and more precise cutting, minimizing the time spent on procedures. Trying to remove a fractured root can be daunting however Piezos fine periotone tip makes easy work of this scenario. It leaves me time to then place an immediate implant. This significantly improves patient satisfaction. 4. Minimized patient discomfort and anxiety: Traditional dental procedures involving drilling and excessive force can cause anxiety and discomfort among patients. The NSK VarioSurg3’s gentle and controlled vibrations reduce pain and proprioception i.e. pressure during dental extractions and create a more comfortable experience, improving overall patient satisfaction. Conclusion: The NSK VarioSurg3 is a welcomed addition to my armamentarium. It by no means replaces traditional instruments as many of my procedures require a combination of tools and techniques. However, the simplification and time saving features mean I have multiple units in my practice so I can cycle these during my theatre lists.
