CATEGORY 42 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST EVENTS own kind of magic: barbecue dinners set up on a sandbar, with lectures occasionally delivered right there on the beach. There was a full-service cocktail bar and quality barista coffee throughout the day. And the real testament to its success? Every single attendee from the first Maldives conference has already booked their next trip with the group. What’s next, and can we come? Given the success of the 2026 event, Trilok and his wife Kari have planned luxury dental conferences in even more destinations for the coming years. Along with the Maldives and Raja Ampat, Indonesia, they are introducing their first family friendly (all ages), land-based General Dentistry conference at the Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort in July 2027. Clinicians joining upcoming events are coming from Australia, Denmark, the UK, the USA and Belgium, a remarkable international reach for an initiative still in its first year. The event has also expanded to include two conference themes, ensuring there is something for every dental professional: one with a focus on full-arch implant dentistry and a second dedicated to general dentistry. The speaker line-up for upcoming trips is as strong, with Dr Costa Nicolopoulos (Greece), Dr Rudi Mukherjee (United Kingdom), Dr Rolf Bettens (Belgium), Dr Angie Papas (Australia), Dr David Attia (Australia) and Dr Helen Arabatzis (Australia) confirmed to present, among others. For Dr Vallury, it’s this calibre of speaker, paired with the intimacy of the setting, that makes the events unique. “The opportunity for attendees to genuinely network and workshop ideas and challenges with clinicians of that level is invaluable.” That intimacy is very much by design. The Maldives boat accommodates just 30 guests, while the Raja Ampat vessel takes only 18, ensuring a close-knit learning environment. Redefining dental education It would be easy to dismiss this as simply a diving holiday with a few lectures added on. But speak to attendees, and it’s clear it is so much more: rigorous, high-level CPD delivered by some of the leading voices in dentistry, paired with truly exceptional dive, snorkel and travel experiences. With Raja Ampat already booked out for 2028 (by previous guests and purely word-of-mouth) and international interest continuing to build, Dr Trilok Vallury and Buoyancy Controlled Dentists look set to keep pushing the boundaries of what dental education can be, one remote, brilliantblue destination at a time.
