CATEGORY 100 AUSTRALASIAN DENTIST COMPANY PROFILE This success story began in Zurich 175 years ago with a craft as old as humanity itself. Heinrich Glättli and Heinrich Geistlich laid the foundation for the Geistlich company – a pioneering enterprise that continues to combine tradition and innovation to this day. Heinrich Geistlich and his colleague, Heinrich Glättli, founded Switzerland’s first glue factory in 1851. This factory marks the origin of today’s Geistlich company. Even today, the “Leimgasse” (Glue Alley) in the Zurich district commemorates this historic location. The history of glue dates back to the Stone Age. Advanced civilizations such as the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans used animal substances for gluing. In the Middle Ages, glue was mainly in demand for bookbinding and woodworking. With the Enlightenment, knowledge of the chemical principles behind glue increased. From the 20th century onwards, technological advances led to synthetic adhesives that are more durable and versatile. Geistlich shaped glue production for over 150 years – by combining traditional craftsmanship and modern technology, a simple product became an innovative industry. In the 1940’s Geistlich established its pharmaceuticals division, expanding and diversifying across Europe. By the 1980’s Geistlich became the regeneration pioneer with Dr Peter Geistlich, a visionary scientist, laying the foundation for the modern company by pioneering research into bone and tissue regeneration using biomaterials. His collaboration with international researchers led to the development of the natural bone substitute Geistlich Bio-Oss®. Pioneering products followed with the company launching further key products, including Geistlich Bio-Gide®, a collagen membrane for dentistry, and ChondroGide®, a collagen matrix for cartilage regeneration. Today, Geistlich Pharma is the market leader in regenerative dentistry and cartilage regeneration, with products considered a global gold standard. Geistlich is still a family-owned company, in its fifth generation. Furthering its commitment to science and education, Geistlich has helped establish several independent foundations to promote research and education in regenerative medicine, including the Osteology Foundation, the Osteo Science Foundation, and the ON Foundation. Geistlich has always been a pioneer – and will continue to drive progress through innovation, consistency, and uncompromising Swiss quality. u Geistlich – progress through innovation From glue hut to industry icon, the beginnings of the Geistlich company Fastest (90 sec) set, unlimited depth of cure, no microleakage. amalgadent.com.au 1800 806 450 malgadent ●Unlimited depth of cure with NO gaps or leakage ●No additional primers or activators needed ●One step in just 90 seconds, no layering or capping ●Enhanced shade-matching, polishability, and wear resistance ●Do more!
