Ballarat Living - Summer 2022

THE HAPPY WINEMAKER Jean-Paul Trijsburg farms a Pinot Noir vineyard in the Ballarat region for his JP Trijsburg label. Sourcing fruit from many Victorian vineyards, he makes well regarded Pinot Noir and cool climate Syrah among others. Recently Jean-Paul was recognised as one of the Top 50 Best Young Wine Brands & Winemakers in Australia. Working his first vintage in 2007 in Burgundy, France, Jean-Paul started out simply picking grapes but somehow ended up in the winery within a week. “I loved it and decided to follow my passion and study winemaking in France,” recalls Jean-Paul. His love for French wines has led him to create his own. First making a few barrels after work to what is now a full-time business. “I am lucky to be able to work together with Wayne and Bree Sharp who own a beautiful 30-year-old Pinot Noir vineyard in Ballarat which produces beautiful wines. It also happens they are the owners of the Yacht Club Ballarat Café. My aim is to always make wines true to their variety and origin – honest wines that put a smile on your face when you take a sip,” says Jean Paul. Jean Paul’s wines can be sampled at the Yacht Club Ballarat or grab a bottle at a local Farmer’s Market or at happywinemaker.com.au and ‘put a smile on your face’. jean-paul@thehappywinemaker.com.au www.thehappywinemaker.com.au Farmers markets – Ballarat Market 2nd & 4th Saturday of each month Creswick Market – 3rd Saturday of each month + EAT & DR I NK
